Club Rules
1) All persons sailing on Furzton Lake must be members or guests of the Club.
2) When one or more members and/or guests are sailing on the Furzton Lake this is classed as a Club activity.
Non club members may sail with us as "Visitors" up to three times only, after that they must join the club if they
wish to sail. Open meeting attendances are not considered to count towards the three visits.
Members and guests using the lake should remain in the designated sailing area and care should be taken when
moving around the sailing area particularly when the ground is slippery. All equipment must be kept clear of the
footpaths and walkways.
3) The Club accepts no responsibility for persons or equipment using the Furzton Lake facilities.
4) All members must obey the Safety Rules.
a. Use of the Club Dinghy.
i. The Club Dinghy shall only be used for the purpose of placing/replacing course buoys and recovering
stranded boats/boats that require recovery from an Island.
ii. Any Club member who uses the Club Dinghy is responsible for his or her own safety and safe use of
the Dinghy. All users must be able to swim and wear a life jacket whilst in the Dinghy. They must be
fit and capable to safely row the Dinghy taking into account their general health, the weather
conditions including both wind strength and direction, the water surface conditions and air
temperature. In the event that the Motor is attached to the Dinghy, the above considerations
remain applicable.
iii. Prior to launching the Dinghy, the Club member shall inflate the Dinghy and ensure that all valves are
closed, oars and motor (if used) correctly attached to the boat.
iv. If it is considered unsafe to launch the Dinghy, then the member shall not launch. If in attendance,
the final decision to launch will be made by a member of the committee.
v. In the event of a member’s boat requiring recovery from an Island and the decision is made not to
launch the Club Dinghy, recovery may only be made at a time when it is considered safe to do so.
vi. At all times whilst the Club Dinghy is operating on the lake, there shall be a minimum of one other
person in attendance who shall remain on the bank.
vii. No person under the age of 18 is allowed to use the Club Dinghy.
viii. To avoid damage to the Club Dinghy skin/hull, all objects including but not limited to anchor
weights, chains or cutting tools are not to be placed in the Dinghy unless they are placed in a
suitable container.
ix. Any open wounds or abrasions should be covered before making contact with water from the lake.
x. Hands should be washed, or covered, after coming into contact with water from the lake before
handling food.
xi. Wellington boots or similar footwear must not be used whilst using the dinghy.
b. Swimming.
i. Club members are not allowed to swim or bathe in the lake.
c. General Safety and Courtesy.
i. Members must only launch and recover their boats from the designated wooden launching
platforms provided for that purpose.
ii. Members are responsible for ensuring their own safety whilst at the lakeside taking into account
the nature and terrain of the site.
iii. Members should refrain from dropping, or leaving, their litter at the lake.
iv. Members should not do anything that may become a nuisance or annoyance to the owners of any
neighbouring premises.
v. Extendable aerials must have some form of protection on the end to reduce the risk of injury to
others.
5) All members must ensure that no damage is done to the site.
6) No power vessels are allowed to use the lake.
7) All vehicles should use the designated car park.
8) All members are required to fulfil duties as Racing Officials as and when required.
9) All members and guests are to abide by all bylaws and regulations relating to the Club area.
10) In the event of the Club being faced with an unexpected expense not covered by existing funds the excess
amount will be collected from the members on an equal basis.
11) Discipline and behavior.
a. Any member behaving in such a way likely to cause offence or embarrassment to other members or the
general public during Club activities will be warned by the Committee that his/her actions are to be
modified. If no improvement is observed within four weeks then he/she will be asked by the committee
to resign or be expelled from the Club
b. For the comfort of fellow skippers, members should refrain from smoking or vaping whilst sailing in the control
area.
c. Failure to obey any of the Club Rules may result in a member's suspension or expulsion.
